1985 Ferrari Mondial QV Coupe
This one has
it all, provenance, rarity, looks, color, and of course
performance. Purchased new in 1985 from the original French
Ferrari importer Ch. Pozzi in Paris, and dealer serviced
(Ch. Pozzi) ever since. I have a number of service
receipts in excess of €10,000.00,
and one major service that totals over
€38,000.00 from 2001.
The history of the car tells the
story, and most records are photographed below. During
my ownership, I've done regular maintenance, and added a
lightweight starter from Gustafson in MA. This Mondial
starts reliably every time. I believe this car can be
exported to France for no duty, since it's an original
French registration car. This Mondial is a very nice
way to enjoy the Ferrari experience very affordably.
Exterior Condition:
The Nero Black exterior on this Mondial is quite nice, it's a deep dark metallic with flecks of gray. It's absolutely striking on the Pininfarina curves. There are very few minor imperfections on this car, I looked all over the front chin spoiler, hood, wheel arches and found only very minor imperfections. Please note two things, there's a minor bit of scuffing under the drivers door and the drivers door handle is misaligned, and there's a gap that needs fixing. This one has obviously been cared for and garaged its entire life. Beyond paint, all rubber is in great shape, window seals are un-cracked, and there is no fading on plastics. Honestly, looking at the condition of the top and the seals, it looks as if it were never used in the sun. All glass is clear. The original wheels are incredible and unmarked. There is no rust coming through anywhere I've seen above or below.
Interior Condition:
The interior shows very well. Seats are light tan, all inner stuffing is in good shape, and they are not worn out or cracked in any way. They look and feel great, and all controls are working. I'd say they're just getting broken in. The leather steering wheel exhibits only minor fading, the dash is un-cracked, all side panels are scratch and stretch free. The carpets look very nice, and are free from heavy wear. All interior features are working, from the clock to the power locks. The original headliner looks incredible.
Mechanicals:
Mechanically, this Ferrari is in great shape, and we have records of service for the original owner, I'm happy to fax copies of these to interested parties, but they're mostly in French. The 3.0 liter V8 is very sweet to drive and beautiful to hear, generating 235hp with no cats on the Euro version. You can quickly get through the gears with 0-60 coming in about 6.4 seconds from original tests. This one is still pretty quick, though I haven't time this. Some notes on driving it: the clutch is good, all gears and synchros are good, it shifts exactly as it should, brakes are very tight, steering has no play, it's all there. I bought this Mondial last February and have driven it about 2000km since, I did have to replace the starter which gave out soon after I bought it. I decided to get the lightweight on from Gustafson as an upgrade, and it's been great. I also put a new Interstate Battery in the car, and it has hookups for a Battery tender. Please note, it DOES need tires, TRX's are on it now, though most folks store them and use 328 or other wheels. Also, after leaving the car for a few weeks in the garage, there's maybe a small drip the size of a dime, I can't say it leaks NO OIL, but this is all I've seen and it's extremely minor. Please note: the odometer is in Kilometers, not Miles.
I've been driving this Mondial about once every 2-3 weeks for a year, and I've always come away impressed. This is a Ferrari that really wants to be used every day, on the highway it's easy to see out of with a nice tall greenhouse. You don't feel like you're laying down and looking out a porthole. There's plenty of room for luggage, and the fuel economy is really quite good. This Mondial makes all the right sounds, drives incredibly well, has superb service records, and really just needs a few minor cosmetic items to really be great. I've found nothing out of sorts when driving this car, and it's really like nothing else out there. 1145 Mondial QV coupes were built from 1982-1985 according to Keith Bluemel's book, and the most recent Sports Car Market Price Guide puts a value of 25,000-33,000 on them. I think this would make an excellent first Ferrari for anyone looking for something a little different yet extremely usable in a mid 80's exotic.
We're asking $23,500.00 for the Mondial, and have clear title.
